★★☆☆☆
Not faith based at all--me centered
This book is written with a reader friendly style, hearing the thoughts of the author had as she edited the book, extended deadlines, and achieved this goal. She was criticized as being very self focused and not focused on her faith impacting her life in Girl Wash Your Face, but I found she shared some of it. I was disappointed that this book is all about how I choose my growth, my goals, my purpose, and I set the course to achieve those goals. But in Girl Stop Apologizing no faith, no relationship with God, no connection to a faith community has any impact on her strategies and personal growth. She recognizes that she has her goals that might be unique to her, but strives for the reader to know she can focus and set her own standards and goals, and to not let anything get in the way of meeting them. This book was not for me. I noticed and it was mentioned that this book is published by Harper Collins Leadership instead of Thomas Nelson division, and contains the perspective of how the reader can follow the authors advice and let go of excuses, adopt specific behaviors, and skills to acquire. This advice is very prescriptive and creates some stereotypes of what women are like. And seems to teach that we all in need of this advice and wisdom to find and meet our goals. Her path has many good things to learn, but the level of self driven direction given to me discounts her credibility. Harper Collins Leadership sent me an advanced copy to review.
