this would have been a 5 star review (it was 3, now 2...see update) - another update
Update:I got the replacement pair, they worked one day only and stopped working in the same manner as the first pair. I'm dropping to 2 stars from 3 and will try to replace one more time. I guess I'm hoping that they just have a high percentage of faulty devices rather than a design problem.
2nd Update: I give up, I want to like these, but they have a lifespan of somewhere between 2-14 days. Just returned pair #3. Could just be the 3 pairs I went through, but I doubt it. Major design or manufacturing flaw happening here. I'll wait for Sport++ I guess.
I wanted to rate these 5 stars, because they were everything that I was looking for in bluetooth headphones...
Then they stopped working entirely after 2 weeks.
It seems that there are 5 important categories to rate BT Headphones
1. BT connectivity
2. Sweat resistance
3. Sound quality
4. Fit
5. Form factor
I have had a number of blue tooth headsets that have all been failures for one reason or another. Here's how the Jabra Sport+ worked in each category.
Bluetooth: You'll often see reviews where people write that you need to have you phone/music player on the left or right side of your body. This is ridiculous to me. I want the bluetooth connection to be near perfect when the I'm with 2 feet of the device. Sadly, not all seem to be able to do this. I refrained from buying the original Jabra sport because too many reviews complained about BT connectvity. For the 2 weeks they worked, the Jabra SPORT+ bluetooth connection was near perfect. 5 Stars for BT connectivity.
Sweat Resistance:I sweat like a fat Greek running on a treadmill. Mostly because I'm a fat Greek that runs on a treadmill. This was a fatal failure for my similarly styled Plantronics unit. Sweat caused the unit to die after about 10 minutes into every workout. The Jabra Sport+ never failed due to sweat. 5 Stars for sweat resistance.
Sound Quality:At first I was disappointed, then I spent the afternoon trying all the ear piece covers. When you get the right ones, you'll find the sound is pretty good. Bear in mind it's pretty good for a BT unit that is intended for workouts. It's not like a wired unit, and it's not like an over the ear (earmuff-like) set. It gets 5 stars for it's type in the sound quality category.
Fit: I don't wear glasses, but I sometime wear sunglasses when I run, and I had no problem. Other than that, as mentioned above, when you get the right ear pieces on (the unit includes like 10 types) they fit very well. Then stay put when your're jogging and they're comfortable and that's what I wanted. 5 Stars.
Form Factor: These are exactly what I was looking for, so this may be more more of a 5 star review for my preference. Here's what I like. I wanted the hook-over-the-ear, and I wanted the loose cable behind the neck. The former because ear muff like units get very hot for workouts, and the latter because you can't lay down on a weight bench with the rigid bar behind the neck like you see on the motorola units or the rest-on-your-neck style like the LG ones. Also the buttons are accessible and responsive and usable while jogging. I was never able to operate the buttons on the Plantronics headsets, to small, too rigid. These worked great. I give Form Factor 5 stars.
Couple of other things...
These have an FM radio. I never used it, wouldn't care if it wasn't there.
These take/make voice calls. I didn't intend to use them for this, and if they didn't have this feature I would have purchased anyway. But when I used them for some calls that came in while I was wearing them, I was very impressed, they worked very well for this feature that I wasn't particularly interested in.
BUT, then they crapped out entirely after only 2 weeks...Initially I was listening to music and noticed the volume control wasn't working, I figured I'd turn them off and back on. Well I turned them off and they never came back...so they don't get 5 Stars. I'm giving them 3 for now. Because everything was great until they failed. AND I'm hoping it was a flukey bad pair.
Amazon gets 5 Stars as usual, for replacing the broken ones in 2 days.
