Seriously, the bag is literally falling apart.
I was very excited about this pack, since all the reviews talked about how sturdy it is. When I received it, I was impressed with how well stitched it seemed, the waterproofing inside, and how comfortable the straps are.
For context, I like larger packs for hauling around the tons of stuff I need throughout a typical NYC day. Clothes, laptop, books. Nothing crazy at all.
Six months after I received it, the waterproofing inside began to peel away. There's now none left at the top, and it continues to peel away down the sides, inside the bag. So anytime I take things out of the bag, large flakes of plastic liner go fluttering to the ground. (See photo.)
Two months later, a molle strap on the shoulder strap broke, even though I've never used the molle system for anything. (See photo.)
A month later, a strap holding a side buckle broke, even though I've never has to use the straps to adjust the bag. (See photo.)
And then, 10 months after I received the pack, a giant freakin' gaping 5" hole where the shoulder strap attaches to the bag. The fabric itself has shredded. Since it's right where the shoulder strap connects, everytime I put it on that hole just gets bigger and bigger. (See photo.)
I'm not treating this pack any differently than any other pack I've owned. Even the cheapest Jansport from Kmart lasted longer than a year without this litany of problems. And I'm just an urbanite hauling gym clothes and lunch around. I could understand if the pack was holding anything substantial.
It's too bad, because it really was comfortable. Lesson learned: no more Red Rock gear.
