★☆☆☆☆
I tried to like it.
I really enjoyed Michael's Untethered Soul. But I strongly disliked The Surrender Experiment. He spends the books amusing himself with how everything just works perfectly in his life. The book is full of hyperboles like “the most... of my life”. Fill in with ‘rewarding’ or ‘perfect’, ‘unexpected’, etc). Things happen, he doesn’t want to do it, but he ends up doing it and it all works out amazingly well because the Universe/life is some entity rooting for him. I found this book quite difficult to finish. I was hoping to learn how to surrender and practice it in my on life, instead, we he just talks about his own experience (my fault for not reading what the book was about I guess). And yet, we don’t see a character growth or him learning from mistakes. It’s just a description of continuous events. You can skip several random chapters and that won’t affect at all your comprehension of the book/story. You won’t miss any important information. Quite predictable. And how he turned hiring people, or paying bills, or buying property into deeply spiritual experiences is beyond me. I really wanted to like it but it was one of the “most…boring books…of my life”.
