I bought these to use to block out the noise in my office, to listen to music, and to make conference calls on the phone and computer. They blocked noise while listening to music but when on calls they actually pick up noises from around me and transmit the noises into the headphones and to the people I was speaking with, the exact opposite of what they should be doing. On calls everyone had problems understanding me and I had to switch to a landline headset every time. People said they could hear people in my office about 15 feet away better than they could hear me. I really expected more out of a $350 set of headphones. I have owned free earbuds that came with my phone that did a better job at canceling out background noise through the microphone. I looked up the issue on Bose support forums and they have known about the issue for a while and have just basically shrugged and told customers that they would have to live with it. When asked if there would be a software fix they claim they never know what might be in the next release. The headphones and the lack of service are not worth the price tag, I returned them.
