Could be a great camera if it focussed consistently
I purchased this to replace an older point and shoot camera, specifically to use while on a bicycling trip. The size is perfect to fit in a back pocket. The 20X zoom was great and worked easily. Controls are fairly simple and easy to use and there was not a lot of difficulty learning the different shooting modes, flash settings, white balance adjustment, etc. It took me a little bit to find and download the ipad/iphone app to use the Wifi features but once loaded, transferring pictures to these devices was easy and the ability to take a picture using the remote negates having to run to get into a group picture or take a selfie very easy. The picture quality (when focused- see below) is very good for this size of a camera. Much better than phone cameras. Even at high levels of zoom the quality is good. The video quality was good, sound on it was fair.
The bad: Focusing. Similar to several other reviews, the camera failed to gain focus often. When shooting in bright light, I did not always recognize that the picture was out of focus until later when I downloaded or reviewed the camera roll indoors. This, of course, was very frustrating as I lost a lot what should have been great pictures. This occurred about 50% of the time and without rhyme or reason. Subject distance or zoom did not seem to effect it. Shooting mode did not effect it. Changing the ISO did not effect it. Indoors versus outdoors did not effect it. I honestly do not think that this is a universal problem with the camera or everyone would be complaining of this issue. Because of this, and since I have owned quality Nikon cameras in the past, I chose to go through Nikon to see if it can be resolved before deciding to send it back for a refund. Sadly, their customer service has not been great thus far, but the camera is now being sent in for evaluation.
