Not for Serious hydroponics
So, there I was...took a couple of hours - put in a 35-gallon DWC op for some beefsteak toms (four plants). Usual prescription: Some Hydrotons, a little MaxiGro, two air stones plus a submersible pump for things like water changes and to add water and grow solutions...
Instead of the more spendy General Hydroponics, went with this pump. Bad move.
My greenhouse temps run about 80-90F and this pump only ran for about 55-minutes on the waist-high bench. then overheated.
Hmmm... I'm thinking: Got my foot-high toms gasping for air...so in went a (backup) GH pump. This one termal'ed out in an hour about 10 AM Texas time. 80F outside, maybe 85 in the GH but with a fan on...
I have since read the reviews about possible oil in the air out of this pump, but after zealously making my system lightproof (no algae, right?) Not going to open and look.
But for now, less than amused. I have some thin aluminum scrap and a wire welder so maybe I can "mig-on" some additional cooling fins. And yes, it's a candidate to be a back-up fall/winter/early spring pump.
But since I like toms in the summer, will get another General Hydroponics and ponder this one's fate.
