40+ publishers refused this book for a reason
This is the most overly hyped book in the history of marketing PR. I was so excited to read this book, that I actually pulled a favor from an associate so I could get an ARC. Waste of a favor request! In the right hands, the movie of this book should be great, but the book itself is poor...very poor. The premise was excellent and unique, but the follow through fell flat, no pun intended. When the book opened with an intense scene that turned out to be the pilot dreaming, I knew the rest of the book would be dull. I will give the author props for some interesting, fairly well fleshed out characters. But then again, I've already forgotten their names so there's that. The bad guys were your stereotypical terrorists with the same dull agenda we've read ad nauseam. The law agent trying to 'discreetly' get the attention of an innocent bystander by waving a pink pool noodle, while knowing the bad guy could be looking out of the house window was beyond ridiculous. Yet, the author continues to take us on a wordy ridiculous journey with full and complete details of oxygen tanks and where they are at and where they are at again... Overuse of characters names proved this book needed more editing. Wait until you get to the motorcycle riding part. Even worse is the utterly outrageous baseball field scene. There is no way TJ has another book in her, and if she does, I have no desire to read it. I'm honestly not sure how much of her ORIGINAL story is even contained in this book. From other reading, it sounds like a lot of hands were in it. Don Winslow and crew certainly helped get anticipation up for this book, but they didn't do us readers any favors.
