If you know nothing about Lord of the Rings, you might have a somewhat good time with this show. If you’ve read any of the silmarillion, nothing in this show follows the lore established. Characters are parodies of the source material, including the timeline and events. It’s understandable that Amazon has only the rights of the LOTR trilogy and the hobbit, but they have no ownership of the rights to the silmarillion, which this shows events take place during. They are effectively rewriting the silmarillion. So if you are new to the world of LOTR, enjoy the show, and then read all of the books to see how events and characters are supposed to be.
