Design failure
I like the Oxo Good Grips product line. I have several of their tools in my kitchen. And the idea behind this masher is a good one. The horizontal handle is comfortable and allows you to easily apply more force to mashing food than with the more typical vertical handle design. But that's also its biggest design flaw. Anyone with reasonable strength will easily be able to apply enough force to bend the masher at the weakest points. This is a failure in product design. They understand this in the construction trade. Just look at wall bracing or shear walls. You need something to resist lateral forces or the product will collapse. I imagine there are a number of ways this product design could be salvaged, mostly involving bending the metal to resist buckling. And until they redesign it with some of these features I don't recommend buying this masher.
