I bought this beautiful copper covered hummingbird feeder to replace my old plastic feeder that fell apart from sun exposure. This feeder is beautiful, but NOT very easy to use! While the hummingbirds absolutely love it (we have 12 this year), it is very hard to clean, it is very hard to put food in it and put it together. The opening is 0.5" in diameter. Yes, that's right. A toothbrush barely can squeeze through the opening. The plastic bottom really doesn't bother me, but what does bother me is that the copper shield, with the flowers on it, is removable and very flimsy, and does not re-seat well with the plastic bottom. In other words, when putting the feeder back together after filling it, you have to hold the copper flower guard, and the plastic bottom together, then screw in the glass bulb. After a few fillings, the copper flower guard deforms and then the sugar water leaks out around the bottom. Another issue, which is the same issue with many bottom feeders, is that air gets trapped and doesn't allow the food to fall to the bottom, and so everyday I have to go out and tilt the feeder to release the bubble. I much prefer the top feeders. The birds still love it, but there are many other better options. I bought the blown glass top feeder as well, and that is a dream to clean, fill, utilize. Save your money and go for a feeder that has a bigger opening to fill and clean, and a better design in terms of re-assembling after re-filling.
