I bought this thermos on August 12, 2012. When I received it, I started taking hot soups to work for my lunches. Less than 3 weeks later, the plastic insert inside the metal cap fell out. The insert was attached to the metal cap by only a small dot of glue. As it was less than 30 days since purchase, I contacted Amazon Customer Service. They were very helpful and sent a new thermos to replace the defective one. I received the new thermos on September 11, 2012. I used the thermos with my hot soups for about 2 months without any problem. During this time, I would pour hot soup into the thermos and screw on the cap. The outside of the thermos stayed room temperature. Generally, I would eat lunch about 6 hours after filling the thermos. The soup would still be quite warm and I had to be careful not to burn myself. After 2 months, the thermos stopped working properly. I poured hot soup into the thermos and screwed on the cap. After a few minutes, the outside of the thermos would become uncomfortably warm, almost too hot to touch. When I went to eat lunch the soup would NOT be warm, it would be lukewarm, room temperature. Apparently, the vacuum seal was broken somehow. I followed the directions for use of the thermos. Before pouring soup into the thermos, I first added hot tap water and let it sit for a few minutes. I hand washed the thermos. I transported the thermos in a padded lunch bag. I didn't drop or bounce the thermos around. I was not rough with the thermos in anyway. And yet, in a 3 month period, I had 2 different thermos' fail. The Thermos brand used to represent quality. I remember how durable they were when I was a kid. This was one of the reasons why I choose to purchase a Thermos product. Not anymore. I will go with a different brand in the future.
