Thank U, Next Except the Author Doesn’t Thank Anyone
Much like Educated - another widely touted memoir - this book is essentially a woe is me tale full of finger pointing about whose fault it was that the author’s life wasn’t exactly what she wanted or thought it would be. The difference is that the author of Maid’s life changed course with a choice she made - to continue an unplanned pregnancy without a steady income, stable relationship, or any support system. It’s so telling that in the acknowledgements at the end, Stephanie Land doesn’t thank a single person who employed her, donated to her Go Fund Me, helped her navigate the welfare system, or otherwise supported her during the times in her life that this book is about.
