Not Reacher
As many of the other reviewers point out, this is not the Reacher we know and love. I got through the whole book, unlike some others, but only out of hoping that the writing and plot would improve. Unfortunately not. And to make matters worse, Reacher does something else he has never done, he heads back to the place he just came from. I think this is the signal that with Lee's brother Andrew taking over the franchise, it's going to be on his terms. One thing continues to puzzle me however: if Reacher hung Lockhart up in the bar right at Rutherford was emerging from his apartment on Monday, that means he went back to the bar on Sunday night. Was that incident deliberately omitted from the book in some misguided artistic design, or was it a printing error? This one inconsistency had me re-reading the first few chapters to see if I had missed a cue, but I didn't find ANY mention of Reacher going back to the bar, though he had threatened to do so. This one omission alone is reason to return the book for a refund, but in truth, I agree with all the critics: Reacher should be retired.
