I purchased this drive for my late model, Mac Mini. Alas, it it will read some disks but not others. I tested the "problem" disks on two other drives and both were able to read them. In fairness, the "problem" disks had some minor scratches but I do not want a drive that will only read "perfect" disks. I did a chat session with an ASUS tech agent but he was not able to solve the problem. Also, per the tech agent, there is no firmware update for this unit. I've made arrangements to return it. Update: I purchased an LG drive (GP60NS50 - also from Amazon) to replace the ASUS drive. As I write this, the LG drive is happily reading the disks the ASUS drive could not. It does, at times, make some clicking noises when it's trying to read a compromised section but so far, it has always succeeded in completing the read. In general, I like ASUS products and own many of them. I was influenced by the ASUS name when I made the purchase. I can't say whether my ASUS drive was defective or whether that model is not good at reading imperfect disks. One more thing... the ASUS drive required a USB "Y" cable (included) so it could pull power from two ports. The LG drive comes with a standard (non "Y") cable and works fine on the power from one of my Mini Mac ports.
