We have 10 year old Firex (now Kidde) smoke alarms throughout our house. I have been trying to replace the old ones with new models that can plug and play. I read the reviews and all of the questions about if various models will work as a replacement for various old models, etc. Many of the comments people say "yes, no problem" - but that is not my experience at all. I think Kidde should publish a very clear matrix that has the SKU numbers for the old models and the 'plug and play' replacement models next to each of them. There is a chart that is supposed to serve that purpose, but it is not detailed enough. For example, my 'old' model is a Firex SKU: 120-1182B. I have ordered the recommended replacements from Kidde, but the plugs are different... so then I had to order converter plugs, but the clasps don't quite fit (but I got them to work). Then , I when I go to twist the new alarms onto the old bases, the connection is different, so I need to replace the bases... it would be so helpful if there was a 1:1 chart that made all of this clear.
