Support on these is Awful
I really really regret buying these.
First though, the good: The noise cancellation is excellent and the headphones are quite comfortable. They also have a good sound quality. They pack into a nice neat pod that is perfect for carrying with you, especially on a plane.
As with most Apple products, the instructions are extremely lacking and you have to search their knowledge base to find some of the functionality of the headset, but the instructions that come with it will get you started so that's fine.
The bad is really how Apple has supported this. The pair I got have an issue where if you use the 3.5mm plug instead of blue tooth (which I need for the plane as well as using at work on my computer) it randomly shuts off, usually within 15-20 minutes, but usually only after a few minutes if you can get it to work at all. Once it shuts off, you can switch to Blue Tooth and it works fine, but the cable won't work again until it's reset, then it'll only work for a few minutes. I had this problem right out of the gate and have only had the headphones for a month and a half now, I took them out of the country for three weeks right away after buying thems which ate into my 30 day return period.
Got an appointment at Apple's "Genius Bar" which takes a week to get, drop off the headphones with specific instructions that BlueTooth works fine, it's when the cable is plugged in is when it won't work. Prior to this I reset them, and checked the firmware and there were no updates.
I get the headphones back and they said they couldn't replicate the issue, but they claim they updated the firmware. There were no updates to firmware publicly available the day I dropped them off, so I have to assume that they put a pre-release firmware or just lied about updating them. Anyway, take them home and they of course fail in 5 minutes. The next day I get a new cable which I again have to go pick up.
The headset fails after 10 minutes this time.
Call support and sit on the phone with them for over 40 minutes and they figure that the service depot seems to have just tested BlueTooth. They create a service # for me to use when I drop them off again.
Guess what, they again ignore the simple instructions on the ticket to test the 3.5mm jack, and give me the results of their testing where they tested everything except the 3.5mm jack. I’m done dealing with the incompetence at Apple.
Amazon was great though, and offered a decent resolution after Apple/Beats failed hard on these twice.
