After opening the package and unfolding the directions, I then had to read halfway down, in bold print, that the motion detector only works in near-total darkness. A closet- fine. A dark stairway in a basement, cool. I don't know who tried to use it in a shower, but their bathroom must be dangerously dark for this to work. Funny that that one qualifier is in bold type in the instructions, but not mentioned anywhere in the specs. And there is no other way to turn it on.
