I bought this unit from IQAir directly. I have MCS and was excited to find something that might help me. It costs twice what other HEPA/charcoal units cost but I hoped I was purchasing a unit that would provide exceptional air quality. I set it up in a room separate from the main living area to test. Within minutes on a low setting I smelled an odd smell and my lungs got tight fairly quickly. I turned it off, waited a day, tried again, and got the same response. We put it outside to run for an hour to possibly clear out the odor but it didn't help. I called IQAIr and spoke with a very nice gal who really wanted to help but to make a long story short their charcoal filters are known to cause an allergic response for some. They sent me another set of charcoal filters that were supposedly better but they weren't. I was told I could run the unit without the charcoal filters but the reason they have the charcoal filters AFTER the HEPA filter is that the styrofoam (glued) housed HEPA filter can cause an allergic response as well! Really IQAir? They advertise this for MCS but two parts of this filter unit can cause an allergic response! I sent it back having to pay over $400 for shipping costs and their 15% restocking fee! They advertise for MCS, are well aware their unit makeup can cause an allergic response, yet still charge a $200 restocking fee! I bought an AustinAir Healthmate Plus, all metal housing, quiet, and it is working great. The filter doesn't filter down quite as much as the IQAir but it's working extremely well and not putting me into the hospital with an asthma attack. Charging me the 15% restocking fee when they KNOW there could be an allergic response with the makeup of this unit is why I decided to write this review. There is an aftermarket metal HEPA for the IQAir from another company due to the styrofoam issue but I didn't want to put any more money into this unit.
