not for the average tinker
The wind mill functions but has some serious design flaws. Rated to 60mph the wind gen burned out the load shedding resistor grid once the battery bank was fully charged, and wind speed exceeded 26mhp. I fixed it and it burned out the new resistors as well. I replaced the resistors with 1kw of heat lamps and it seems be working ok. secondly the charge controller has a dynamic break attached to a manual shutoff switch for shutting the wind gen down in high wind situations. Unfortunately it overpowered the break at40mph wind speed and burned up the associated wiring. I repaired this and installed a light switch shorting two phase of the gen which serves to shut the gen down manually when needed. In all, it is working nicely after my modifications, but if you dont have solid electrical skills stay away from this gen. The above configuration lasted for about a year then one day wind speed exceeded 100mph and the windgen overpowered the jury rigged dynamic brake. End result was my charge controller caught on fire, wires burned open at the terminal board and the windgen freewheeled... at 100mph+ it made a reel nice kite as it straightened an 3/8 eyebolt on a guidewire turnbuckle.. last i saw of my pretty little windmill it was headed east.. I decided not to replace the windgen because if windspeed could hit 100mph once it will do it again. If you decide to buy one of these wire it with #6awg and scrap the charge controller that comes with it. run the 3 phase to a shorting contactor that will short the windings for a high wind shutdown, buy a xantrexc60 or similar charge controller and run a dump load of around 2kw. good luck!
