Very poor performing product and even worse customer service
I generally do not write poor reviews unless it is absolutely necessary to warn future buyers. I bought this late March of 2013. Worked pretty well for 6 months. At that point it wouldn't open. It's certainly a bit challenging to be without a trash can, but we moved forward with utilizing the warranty to get it repaired/replaced. Customer service can be a little tough to get a hold of. Ultimately I left a message and they called me back. The policy is that you have to pay the shipping cost, which was $25 for wrapping it carefully and based on weight. They told me it would either be repaired or replaced within a few days. We were without a trash can for almost two weeks.
We received the "replacement" (it looked like the inside had been used). They shipped it back horribly, it wasn't even in a box. Basically wrapped top and bottom with cardboard and some bubble wrap with tape. It worked better than when we returned it. Within one week, the lid would get jammed straight up and wouldn't close. This was just before the Holidays and we couldn't go another stretch without the can. So we turned off the motor and survived the holidays by just keeping the lid open when we had gatherings (stinky though).
So, I just called to see what I can do with my broken lid. They told me I would still need to pay the shipping cost. Um, I'm sorry, but your product has failed twice within one year. The company should pay for such a horrible product. So, I told them I would write a poor review and the customer service agent wouldn't even apologize. So, much for this can. I'll be shopping for something that isn't sold by Ninestars. What a disappointment with no effort to make the situation right. The can was $100! Shipping was $25! And a new lid on their website is around $45!. Don't get lured into buying this product until they find a better way to service their customers.
