They work, but I regret buying these
These are functional adjustable dumbbells, but for the price I was somewhat disappointed for a few reasons. The main issue is that these dumbbells are very loose, and as a result they are loud and bounce around a lot. The mechanism behind the twisting dial is pretty mechanically neat in that each plate has circular grooves and then the main shaft has channels with offset flat-sides that will catch those plates when rotated to the right position. The problem here is that this creates a mating between the plate and handle that is not tight at all. The plates have about a quarter-of-an-inch of play around the handle, which means that they are constantly clacking into each other, and if you are doing something like curls they shift all over the place throughout that range of motion. I've tried creating some quick shims out of a thick, felt-like material to fill the space between the plates and make everything more solid, but haven't had much luck so far. Also there are some smaller, secondary things which others have mentioned: - It is sold as a single unit, not a pair, and this is not especially clear from the amazon description - Weights are labeled in kilograms, which is also not particularly clear from the description (which goes out of its way to describe the product in terms of lbs.) In summary, these work but I wouldn't buy them again.
