I wondered if a DVD player for $43 (the cost when I bought it in Sept 2012) was too good to be true. Turns out, it was. I was hoping that the state of the technology had increased enough to make this common component inexpensive to produce. Well, it is cheap. And it shows. After four months of very light use, the player stopped reading DVDs. Of course the labor warranty ran out after three months. So I visited Sony's support site. I entered my info and was pleased to see that this unit is covered under an exchange program. Great, I thought. The company found that this model is defective and will give me a new one. Well, they will give me a refurbished model if I pay to ship it to them and send them a check for $33 to cover the labor to repair the unit. No thanks. I will just recycle this one and hope to find a more reliable one elsewhere.
