I bought this heater on the recommendation of mypetchicken.com as a "safe" alternative to the red heat bulbs we had used in the past for raising our chicks. I was always concerned about the fire hazard of the bulbs so thought I would ease my mind by using something less prone to issues - boy was I wrong. The heater worked fine for the first two days, and then the evening of the third we noticed the chicks chirping loudly. We went in and found one dead, two in very desperate shape and two in obvious heat distress. The indicator on the panel, normally a dull orange was vibrant. Reaching in my wife was shocked to find the heater extremely hot. We pulled all the chicks out immediately and we we able to resuscitate two of the chicks but the other two chicks died within 10 minutes, along with the one already dead. We pointed our infrared thermometer at the panel and found it was 225 degrees after being unplugged for over 10 minutes!!! It was a horrible disaster and broke my kids hearts, along with mine. I tried to do the right thing and ended up killing three poor chicks with this disaster of a product. Obviously I cannot recommend this product at all.
