Pretty Kettle, Impractical Design
I wanted a shiny, stainless steel, large capacity, whistling tea kettle -- this kettle fulfills those requirements and replaced a similar kettle that had worn out. I noticed immediately that this kettle seemed to take an excessively long time to boil water and start whistling -- much longer my old kettle. I finally figured out why. My old kettle had a flat bottom, so the full heating element of my electric stove came in contact with the bottom of the kettle. This kettle, however, does not have a flat bottom -- there is a slight ridge on the bottom of the kettle. So, there is actually very little of the kettle that comes in contact with the electric burner -- there is a slight air gap between the burner and most of the kettle's bottom. If you have a gas burner, this should make little difference, but if you have an electric burner or induction burner, you should consider another purchase.
