Ick, just ick
If you like rich successful men who get off on degrading naive women (if an 18 yr old qualifies) and teenage girls who grow into 25 year old women while managing not to mature, this is the book for you! Spoiler: When she is an 18 year old college freshmen, Katie and her friends go to a bar that they've been told doesn't card. Sure enough, they get in. She gets drunk, tells a guy she is 22 and goes home with him. For somebody who is smart enough to get into any Ivy League college, she is incredibly dumb and naive. They date for six months and she never works up the courage to tell 35 year old, supposedly smart, sophisticated and successful business man her true age. But it really doesn't matter, he knows everything about her. He repeatedly asks her if she trusts him but he has been having her investigated since the moment they met. He is a guest lecturer for one of her classes and they break up when he "finds out" her true age, but not until he humiliates her. He treats her poorly, degrades her horribly in public. They break up. Seven years later, she still isn't over him, and has just got a job at one of his companies. She is still naive but still apparently smart enough to be hired in a management position even though she has little work experience. They "run into" each other at a management retreat. He still treats her horribly, she still can't resist him but when she does try, he pulls strings to get her roommate fired from her job so she can't afford to quit. Good guy, right? She doesn't know this right away but eventually finds out. He asks her repeatedly to trust him which she does even though all his actions demonstrate that he doesn't deserve it. Oh, he has continued to have her investigated the entire 7 years they've been apart which demonstrates his level if trust. She keeps saying she won't have anymore to do with him but she keeps coming back for more the worse he treats her. What she should do is get a restraining order and get as far from him as possible.
