As a long time user of dryer balls instead of fabric softener sheets, I purchased this brand to try one of the lower priced options. Unfortunately, in this case, you definitely get what you pay for. The balls are made of a softer plastic material that can be squeezed, with air that goes in and out of a small hole. It's very much like a squeak toy for dogs, just without the squeaker. Other brands of dryer balls are air tight and made of a much firmer plastic that only softens up due to the heat of the dryer. The plastic gives off a chemical odor even after a washing in soap and water. I don't know whether it will subside over time, but I'm reluctant to put these into a hot dryer in case the smell gets worse and goes into the clothes. In addition, two of the four balls in the package have a "dent" in them so they are not quite round. Overall, I'm disappointed with the quality of this product, as it is clearly not at all to the level of the dryer balls that I've used in the past. But if I can get the chemical smell to go away, I'm sure they will do the job.
