I originally set this up with the drain tube and turned it on after waiting for the specified 24 hours specified to allow the unit to acclimate from shipping. After a few days, I decided to try it with the collection bucket to see how quickly it would fill up. I'm glad I did this because I found that it only collected roughly 4 pints a day which is 10% of it's published capacity. It has a small reservoir and figured I would be having to empty it frequently. This unit is rated for 40 pints a day. I'm assuming they are using the old humidifier rating based on the performance I received. Unsatisfied with the performance, I picked up a different (but well known) brand at a local warehouse club which was rated for 50 pints a day (New ratings so 70 pints in the old rating). This competing unit was somewhat larger in size, $20 less expensive, has more features, also Energy Star rated, includes a 2-year warranty, and from a merchant with a very liberal return policy vs Amazon's (which is very restrictive these days and much less liberal than in days gone by which doesn't make sense for such a profitable company except that you can never make enough I guess...makes me want to shop elsewhere and dump Prime altogether because I don't want to get stuck with Chinese junk). The competing unit is pulling out 32 pints a day on average which is 64% of it's published capacity which is still not accurate, but the whole dehumidification industry seems to over-inflate their performance numbers. There were so many advantages to keeping the larger unit, including $20 cheaper and longer warranty, and the ability to return locally far beyond 30 days...that it made my decision to return easy since I didn't want to get stuck with Chinese junk for high dollar prices. Amazon, I hope you do better in the future with your product selection and pricing. If all you can find is junk to sell, I'll shop elsewhere.
