Read the 1 star reviews before buying these...I wish I had...
I purchased these Smartbites after my 2 cats rejected Catlax (another hairball remedy). Overall, the rating on this product is 4 1/2 stars, so I read a few of the recent reviews and thought "Great"! Over the course of a few weeks, we finished off the first bag, with a noticeable improvement in hairballs. So, I bought a 2nd bag. I would agree with other reviewers that these things are like cat "crack". My cats reacted to these treats so much stronger than their normal treats. After a few days on the 2nd bag, I noticed that their food bowls (both canned & dry) food, seemed to be barely untouched at the end of the day when normally, it's gone by noon. Then I started noticing, small throw-ups all around the house with a frothy saliva consistency. They still wanted their Smartbites, though. I thought perhaps there was something wrong with their food. The next day, the food boycott continued with more of those saliva throw-ups. I was starting to worry. Later in the day, I saw one of my cats violently throw up what looked like bile mixed with those treats. The lightbulb finally came on. I went back and read all of the 1 star reviews, and sure enough, other cats had the exact same symptoms. Then I googled "Greenies smartbites bad for cats" and found a web site that had hundreds of stories about cats and dogs sickened by these treats. I felt like throwing up. I immediately threw them in the trash, and the vomiting ceased. It took 4-5 days for their appetites to fully return. So, please use extreme caution if you decided to try these. I wish I had.
