NOT THE SAME AS DA29-00003G FILTER!
I purchased this filter thinking it was basically the same as the DA29-00003G Filter. It's definitely inferior. After I purchased it, I decided to go to a few "all we sell are filters" websites to look for a cheaper price for next time or maybe some bulk options. I didn't find cheaper prices, but I did get some knowledge dropped on me...most of these filter sites state that this filter is a cheaper, inferior model. I was curious and felt a little hoodwinked by Samsung, so I did some investigating. To start, it is an official Samsung product. It is made in South Korea by Microfilter Co. (The DA29-00003G filter is made in Mexico by 3M.) I tried to verify why this inferior model is even being manufactured, but couldn't. Possibly there are less strict requirements in Asia, so Samsung commissioned this cheaper model to be sold mostly in Asia. Here's some very basic info on the NSF guidelines and a breakdown of the two filters. The NSF ranks filters under two classifications, Standard and Class. There are two NSF Standards and six NSF Classes. Standards applies to what contaminates the filter filters out and what percentage of the contaminate it removes. Direct quote from NSF website, "Two NSF Standards cover filtration systems: NSF/ANSI 42 addresses AESTHETIC claims and NSF/ANSI 53 addresses HEALTH claims." Class applies to how much and the size of sediment/particulate the filter filters out. Oddly enough, Class VI is the "lowest" Class, removing coarse particulates of 50 micrometers and larger. Class I is the "highest" Class, removing the smallest submicron particles (i.e., 0.5 to 1.0 micron). This filter (DA29-00003F) is an NSF Standards 42-Certified Class III and removes: Particulates (Class III) 99.9% of Lead at pH 6.5 93.4% of Lead at pH 8.5 Chlorine While the DA29-00003G Filter is an NSF Standards 53-Certified Class I and removes: 98.40% of Particulates (Class I) 99.30% of Lead at pH 6.5 99.40% of Lead at pH 8.5 96.60% of Mercury at pH 6.5 88.90% of Mercury at pH 8.5 99.00% of Asbestos 96.40% of Benzene 99.80% of P-Dichlorobenzene 99.99% of Cysts 98.70% of Carbofuran 97.60% of Chlorine 98.6% of Turbidity I then looked up both filters on the NSF Product Certification website to verify the difference and the NSF website confirmed it. Honestly, I spent around 2hrs fact checking and source verifying. And if so inclined, a person could easily verify this information on their own with some time and a search engine. Also, just to clarify, I have no dog in this fight (so to speak). I simply want to share what I learned. Hopefully this will help another purchaser make an informed decision.
