MAP-Pro is NOT MAPP
I have only recently found out that MAPP is no longer available (since 2008 doh!) MAPP (5300*F) burns much hotter than MAP-Pro (3730*F) or propane (3600*F). Propane at around $3 per bottle and MAP-Pro at around $10 from local big box stores (US). I recommend buying Propane at local big box stores for most projects around home. Learn to use propane torch to preheat and minimize cooling effects such as wind for optimal soldering. MAP-Pro can be helpful for seized bolt removal, larger pipes or large brass fittings. Try different torch tips for your specific applications for maximizing propane or improving fake MAPP (MAP-Pro) gas. Brazing and certain application just isn't feasible with MAP-Pro and most definitely not with propane. Do I sound upset with discontinued MAPP, some what. I am more upset that Bernzomatic made MAP-Pro looks like MAPP for unsuspecting consumers. They could have used different name and even different color to distinguish MAP-Pro from MAPP. They are different gas and it is much less hot and much less BTUs. Yes, I understand it isn't just flame temperature but also BTUs and which part of flames among other variables. The business profit motivated decision to remove propadiene product (MAPP: methylacetylene propadiene propane) from the market rather than safety issue is also upsetting.
