They Took out the Negatives and Now Life is Terrible
I bought this game to play with my significant other because we both enjoyed playing it as kids. I noticed that it was an updated edition from the last time I played Life. He and I played once and we probably will not play again unless we make modifications to the gameplay. Every encounter in the game is positive. Part of the fun of the older editions is that you take risks, gain and lose money, can have a dead-end career with a lousy paycheck, and discover what happens when you don't have auto insurance and get in a car accident. However, they've stripped out all of the negatives. There is no auto insurance, there are no low-paying careers, and you never lose money; nothing bad ever happens. What is this teaching children? In my opinion, the game should have gone in the opposite direction. There used to be spaces immediately after paydays where you had to pay taxes; they shouldn't have been removed. You should also have the option of putting a percentage of your paycheck towards your retirement when you get paid and invest it to have a higher amount of money when you retire at the end of the game. Everyone knows that Life isn't fair, however, this game teaches kids that Life is fair and that's not a good thing.
