Devices like the Roku can not be connected at times to ...
I am a network analyst, with a major ISP. I have nearly 20 years in the field. I troubleshoot networks that span the continent, and some that cross the ocean. I've worked support for wireless networks, Internet connections, I work on business networks currently, and routers far more advanced than what this device is. I say this, not to toot my own horn, but to state that what I am sharing comes from an experienced professional. I chose this device because of some of the advanced features, believing they would help with certain over utilization issues I have with a previous wireless router I was sadly running the CPU on that router into the ground, so I needed something a bit more powerful. There is a defect in my router. LAN devices do not communicate with each other, this is a sporadic issue unique to this router, every other wireless router works out of the box with no issues in this respect. Devices like the Roku can not be connected at times to the IP remote, or controlled by/seen by a smart device with an app. the wireless printer is rarely visible and usable. Logitech Harmony remote base is also giving an error that the device isn't on the same network. This mostly happens on the wireless, however the problem does happen on Wired connections as well. none of this is why they get 1 star. it's defective. I get that. this happens with any electronic equipment or manufactured device. I write this review because their support is one bad experience after another. I have found 1 other person on an obscure forum that has the same issue, but no resolution was available. I had already updated the firmware, factory reset, and gone through every setting available to try to resolve this issue. I went through the paces with their email support who also had me do the same steps I've already performed. 1. The first Rep I worked with barely asked any questions before stating it needed to be sent in to be repaired. I agreed since the equipment was faulty. 2. They do not work with their customers to get the RMA done. They will not provide a shipping label for their defective product. 3. They will not provide a shipping label for their defective product. 4. When they do receive the product for repair, their technician doesn't pay attention to what the issue is, and states they cannot duplicate it. The only response I get when they send the item back is "test Ok, cannot duplicate issue" 5. They do not return calls when they say they will. 6. I have yet to actually speak to someone regarding this issue, and over all this has been ongoing for months. 7. Had the tech that received the device done proper troubleshooting, they would have connected more than one device. they probably tested WAN, and found no issues. I wrote them detailed information on what the problem was. had they connected several devices and tested communication between them over the local area network they would have duplicated the issue. I am done with ASUS. so far, the last 3 products I have purchased from them have been defective. I may just have lousy luck, but after spending hours with their lack of support, I, am, Done. I gave them every opportunity to make this right. I recommend using Name brand routers only the only 2 wireless brands I suggest to others are Linksys, and Netgear. I've actually said that for the last 10 years to all my customers. Asus is new to the router scene. I had high hopes, I've been an Asus customer since their early days when I used to go to computer shows to build a PC, before shopping on the internet was possible. In the past I would have recommended them as the best motherboards. That is no longer the case either I'm afraid. they are over priced, under supported, and can not keep their promises. Buy a Netgear, half the price, none of the pain.
