this series is so horribly written, it is difficult to know where to begin. the characters are unlikable cardboard cutouts, there are more grammatical errors than my 13 year old niece has in her emails, and the editors tried to hide this with clumsy flashbacks to an incident that happened 10 years earlier (that probably could have been been a prequel to this book)-generally shoving it in at times where it kills any meager amount of momentum it might have had. the fight scenes are truly funny though. this person was either the poor kid who always got their rear end kicked or they've never even seen on been in a fight. 'he swung his arm at her face, but before he could get both hands around her throat...' OK...did he throw a punch or lunge with both hands for her throat? those are completely different physical moves that cannot be interchanged! the fight scenes are full of impossible scenarios--a sword or knife gets lost and is then in hand again a moment later, etc. and since they were a lot of fight scenes, when you are supposed to be worried about an really very very unlikable character it simply gets comical. i want my 99cents back plus some free books to make up for the mess! this was truly tortuous and i've slogged my way through some pretty bad fantasy novels!
