Bad Advice
The problem I have with this book is that it advocates avoidance. The title of it really should be, "How to Avoid Anything that Makes You the Least Bit Uncomfortable and Live in a Bubble". Uncomfortable driving on the freeway - don't. Overwhelmed at a party - leave. In a challenging relationship - get out. It's all okay - you're an empath!
I am also what could be considered an "empath" and I personally was looking for a way to move past my limitations - not to be further crippled by them. And I certainly didn't find that in this book.
The author of this book, who is a psychiatrist, wears the word "empath" on her sleeve like a badge. Truly, the word "empath" is nothing more than a cluster of fairly common personality traits. It's something you HAVE, not something you ARE. The author teaches nothing but limitations and excuses (oh I can't, I should have to, you see, I'm an empath) and offers no advice on how to move outside your comfort zones to grow as a person so you can lead a full, rich life. "Empaths" avoid enough - we don't need any more help!
Basically, she's labeled a box with "EMPATH" written on it in big black letters and stuffed herself inside. I don't care to stuff myself inside the same box.
