I bought a brand new Singer Heavy Duty 4423 sewing machine in June, 2019. From day the machine arrived it had not been stitching. I kept telling myself that the fault could not be the brand new Singer machine because in my mind, Singer has a good reputation. I have a busy schedule and did not get around to troubleshooting until a few days ago. I also had my husband troubleshoot. We watched Singer tutorials on Youtube to ensure that we were following the correct steps in using the machine. We finally accepted that the mechanism that should pick up the bobbin thread does not work. The machine is not picking up the bobbin thread; therefore, the machine cannot sew. The machine has not made a single stitch from day one. I called Singer customer support because by now it is too late for me to return it to Amazon. The Singer customer support representative told me that the only thing they can do for me is to "repair" the unit. When I asked for Singer to replace the brand new unit she said, "We don't do that. But we will repair it." So Singer said they will "repair" the brand new 2-month old machine that has not made a single stitch from day one - not replace it, but repair it. This feels like paying the cost for a brand new product, but only getting a used product for my money. I am disappointed because Singer is not replacing the brand new unit. I am also disappointed because I had a lot of respect for the Singer brand. My grandmother had a singer. She taught me to use a Singer. My first sewing machine experience started with a Singer. The last thing I expected was for the brand new Singer sewing machine to be defective. If I had purchased a different brand and I didn't know their reputation and this happened, I would understand. But I did not expect this from Singer. My advice to readers: DO NOT BUY A SINGER SEWING MACHINE! THE BRAND IS NOT LIVING UP TO ITS REPUTATION!
