Use of Cheaper Materials in the New Models
I first purchased a pair of these back in late 2010 I was very impressed by the build quality and materials of the shoe. The faux leather was of very high quality with very natural grain which made it distinguishable from real leather. In fact, it not only looked like leather but felt like leather as well. Flash forward to 2012 and I saw these on sale and decided to purchase a pair in the same color. To my disappointment it looks like Rockport has changed to lower quality materials now. The faux leather now looks very fake with barely any grain and a very rubbery feel to it. It no longer looks like a high quality shoe and instead looks and feels tacky. I figured the pair I received might have been a fluke so I exchanged it for another only to see the same thing. I guess for Rockport its a cost cutting move. See the pics I have uploaded showing the 2010 version of this shoe and compare it to Amazon's stock pics of the newer version. It's a shame as this used to be a very high quality shoe at a very reasonable price.
