The controllers kill the experience.....if you are an Atari gamer of old, avoid at all costs.
I did not get this through Amazon, I got it as a gift last Christmas. Played Atari since I can even remember, and this thing has quite a few good games. Unfortunately the controller absolutely ruins the experience. The controllers are "wireless" in that they are sending infrared signals to the base unit, and they also seem to be digital....not analog like they were originally. Here are the issues this causes: 1) There is lag, or so you think, but it's more than likely a line of sight issue. As you play, you may be a bit animated in your gestures, therefore you may accidentally cause the controller to lose line of sight. Or you may accidentally place your finger/hand over the infrared light on the controller. Or someone walks in front of you and blocks the signal.....it's a mess!!!! 2) Digital control/lack of analog means you can't fine tune your movement. (Missile Command is basically unplayable). The controller only sends an on/off signal to the base unit, which is unacceptable for probably 50%+ of the Atari games you grew up playing and loving. The challenging game play becomes unplayable. Unfortunately it looks like all the retro consoles from this company are digital controls, which just doesn't work for these retro games.... (Edit: Per feedback from other reviewers, the original controllers were digital too so I misspoke. Regardless these controllers didn't seem to function as well as the originals in my experience. I appreciate all the feedback, and apologize if I misspoke on Digital vs Analog, but there is no need to be snarky or rude. What I meant by it was that you move it in a direction and it under or over shoots, never allowing for finer movement like I recall on the original machine. There have been multiple releases of this machine (1 through 7), so maybe the controllers included in those subsequent releases function better or maybe they were defective with my unit. Regardless the IR emitter is a pain, and it was nearly impossible to line up shots on multiple games like it was with the original controllers. It is a huge/solid collection of games, so give it a try. Just save the receipt/return it if you don't like the controls like me. I wish they were wired and allowed me to more finely control the games. You can believe me or not, but I've had an Atari, ColecoVision, NES, Gameboy, Genesis, Sega CD, PS1, PS2, PSP, PS3, PS4, PSVita, along with various PC gaming over the years. I have plenty of gaming experience on the Atari (still play an original during the holidays at my Grandparents), and my experience with the Flashback console is what it is. I did not intend to mislead, I intended to share my experience.)
