Do Not Buy the SB6190--Unresolved Latency Flaw
Do not buy the SB6190--Intel and Arris have acknowledged a latency flaw with the Intel Puma 6 chipset used by this modem (as well as others). Let me start by saying that I purchased another Arris modem (SB8200) to replace this flawed modem, so I have no animosity against Arris...they produce fantastic products...although their handling of this latency issue has been much less than stellar (and is the source of a Class Action Lawsuit). The backstory: I purchased the SB6190 in 2016 as it was the top rated DOCSIS 3.0 modem at the time. After some time, we started noticing network dropouts and unexplained latency. My kids internet gaming suffered as did our video streaming service (i.e. Netflix, etc.). My troubleshooting took me down the path of new cables and other "fixes" with no perceived change. Then I ran across the Class Action Lawsuit against Arris for hiding the fact that the Intel Puma 6 chipset used in the SB6190 had known latency flaws. ALL SB6190 units are impacted by this latency flaw and neither Intel nor Arris has successfully fixed this issue...yet they continue selling it without mentioning this flaw (which is the rationale behind the lawsuit). The DSL report can be found by Googling "The-Arris-SB6190-Modem-Puma-6-Chipset-Have-Some-Major-Issues". The worst part, Arris will not refund your money or acknowledge the issue if you call/complain...your only course of action is to join the Class Action Lawsuit. Bottom Line: Avoid the trouble, and go with another brand or upgrade to DOCSIS 3.1 with the Arris SB8200 that uses a verified and proven Broadcom BCM3390 chipset (check with your ISP first to ensure they support this new technology).
