Too Basic Health Results, Stick With DNA Only
Last year I completed an AncestryDNA kit and was astonished by the results. Uncovering my roots and connecting me to family members from across the globe was well worth the wait and price. Being able to create and expand my family tree to over 7 generations and 600+ people was a mind-blowing experience. So when they released their Ancestry Health Core program, I was ready to hop on board. I really wanted to dig deeper into my own DNA and uncover traits that may help with future health conditions and such. Since I already did the Ancestry DNA test, I was able to log onto their website and pay $49 to order the additional Health Core information. They make you fill out a small, quick, questionare about your immediate family history and then your answers and DNA are submitted for analysis. Two weeks later, I got my results. Don't expect anything too intricate or detailed; the lackluster results are basic to say the least—simple yes, no, and maybe explanations. I thought there would be more results than just a few, but here are items Ancestry tests for: - 2 cancer varieties - 3 Carrier Statuses - High cholesterol/ Iron/ Platelets issues - Heart issue - Basic (5) vitamin deficiency - Lactose intolerance - And caffeine consumption. My brother did the 23andMe test and I was impressed by his results, they even went as detailed to say the probably of Elderly Dementia, Male PatternBaldness, and Cilantro Bitterness. Ancestry should just stick with building family trees and connecting people through DNA.
