Works just fine, as long as you don't have OCD tendencies and don't care about the cleanliness of your house.
We have three cats. We bought two of these. We are very good about keeping up after our cats, cleaning the boxes three times a day. I get that what I'm putting in this review may be subjective. Maybe you're lucky and have cats that have...better "litter etiquette" than our cats. However, we can't control that, and don't have these problems to anywhere near this extent with other litter boxes.
I'll give it two stars because in all fairness, the box does seems to be made well, so...at least it has that going for it. We didn't have the problems that other people here seem to be having getting the lid to fit (it's not rocket science...there's a lip, and you have to fit the two halves together). I can't speak to how long they would hold up over time, though.
What I CAN speak to is that bagless litter boxes are disgusting, and just a bad idea in general. With our other (bagged) litter boxes, when pee-soaked-litter sticks to the sides, a quick shake of the box or tapping it against the ground typically loosens the whole thing, and you can scoop it up really easily. That is definitely NOT the case with this box. With this box, no amount of tapping or swishing around gets this stuff un-stuck. When you try to get it loose with a scooper, well...look at the picture I attached. It doesn't help that the sides of the box are rounded, which makes it all the more difficult to scoop this stuff. Really, really gross. All those pee-chunks just break apart while you're trying to get them off the sides, and they distribute all through the box. Then your cats scoot their feet through it. Then they walk around your house and step on your stuff. FYI -- this is using the same litter we were using in the old boxes.
I'm not naive. I realize that no matter how much you clean it, it's never fully clean; you never get it *all* out. But, with this box, I can't even come close. As for cleaning this thing between litter changings...after you dump the contents into a garbage bag, you've got to take it outside, hose it down, scrape off (and I *mean* scrape) what's on the sides, and sanitize it. Due to the design of this box, you can't really use a bag. At best it would partially block the entrance that the cats use, and their claws would eventually just tear it. At least with the bagged litter boxes, changing it is as simple as pulling out the bag, and maybe a quick Clorox-wipe around the inside of the box in case anything did seep through.
I can't see how using this box is a sanitary solution for managing your cats' business. Maybe it looks a little bit less like a litter box than other litter boxes do but, it's not an even trade-off. The added mess and cleaning that comes with this box just isn't worth it.
