A Discovery of Witches - A Yawn and Wine described in detail
I dont usually review a work of art, but this book deserves a review. I was able to get through only half the book and i honestly dont want to spend more time on reading this book. So before i throw the book away both physically and from my head, let me give you some idea about what is wrong with the book.
1. The pretext is gripping, there are witches, vampires, daemons, a mysterious book etc. but the book does not sustain that pretext at all right from the first chapter. This book is not a light read, but is a read that will damage your brain for a long time that you will run back to the store to desperately find some good books.
2. There are too many minor details described in a very detailed manner throughout this book. For example if Mathew Clairmont yawns there is one paragraph describing that, if Diana Bishop haves a cup of tea there is a page dedicated to that, and if they have dinner together, there is a whole freaking chapter detailing each minute thing like what she is wearing to which hand she is holding a fork and which hand has a spoon. And this kind of unwanted details are throughout the book, so after a point i just wish they dont have any more dinner or wine or do anything.
3. The first half at least did not have anything that remotely described the plot, in fact there is absolutely no plot in the first half, except for details which made me tired. This book has the ability to constantly ramble and get into your head until you lose all the interest in life. It was like sitting in a bad lecture.
4. Even the wafer thin plot that was there was not strong enough, this is an absolutely fantasy novel. Not the fantasy in its true sense but it is the fantasy of every women, to get a man super-rich, super handsome, and can live forever. This is the fantasy of a women getting her dark knight. But i felt like the character of Mathew was like a douchebag, and that of Diana as of a kitten scared of everything.
This is absolutely bad writing. The only good thing about this book is that if an mediocre writer reads this book, it would boost their confidence a 100% to sit and write. If these kind of books can be called bestsellers, it is a moral booster for all the budding writers.
