OK resources for designers – if you can access them
I'm a graphic designer and I frequently use resource books such as this in my work. The quality of the physical book is very poor. The paper is thin and transparent and the prints lacking in quality, leading to the image on the other side showing through on any scans. The book is more like an index for the download than an actual resource. The actual source images would be decent if I was able to properly scan them in for my use. OK, so the book itself strikes out. What about the digital files included with purchase? Well, they are fine – if you can access them. All the plates are uploaded as JPEGs in a standard Dropbox folder. Downloading them as all at once timed out a dozen times for me – the files simply wouldn't download (I'm not a fan or user of Dropbox for this very reason). Having to manually download 200+ plates is not exactly a dream come true. The digital downloads themselves are all very sharp, leading to heavy haloing and emphasis on the textured paper background – which makes the images a lot more difficult to isolate the individual graphics. Overall, I wouldn't really recommend this product. There are better, cheaper vintage resources out there. Look up the Dover Archival series.
