The star of the film should always be the film, not the actors and sure not the filmmaking. But this film, from the beginning, has the director screaming for attention, "look at my filmmaking, look at my filmmaking...camera movements...me me me." If I want to see a ----- stage play I will go to broadway. But when I watch a film, I don't want to know Im watching acting...I want to become lost in the story. That does not happen when everything is over the top and starved for attention above the story. That happens when poor directing is built upon poor writing, leaving often good actors with little to nowhere to run but give poor performances. Plus...no one cares about about the behind the scenes...everyone knows the talking points of Desi and Lucy. Let a classic stay a classic and be what it was...simple entertainment.
