Second Update: After 90 days the light no longer turns on. What a waste of money. I regret buying this. Downgraded to one star, and I apologize to anyone who purchased it based on my initial review. Update: The clock started resetting itself every few days, after about 40 days. The overall system still works (lights and water circulation), but it requires manual operation to turn on or off the light and the nutrient reminders are totally unreliable. Too bad, otherwise a fun buy. Downgraded my rating to 2 stars due to this loss of functionality. <End Update> Perfect for brightening up winter and bringing fresh herbs to our kitchen! I live in Alaska, and would recommend this kit to anyone who lives in Alaska or the PacNorWest or any climate zone where SAD exists. The basil and dill smelled fresh and delightful shortly after they sprouted (even before they were ready for any harvesting) bringing the scent of spring into our home. The light auto-on is not 100% reliable (doesn't always turn on) and the lights can't be set to turn on at a certain time in the morning. I would love to program this to start 30 min before my alarm goes off in the morning, so that my kitchen would be bright and cheerful first thing. That being said, I plan to use this for many years to come. I also wish it used less plastic- it is terribly ironic to sell a green garden kit entirely made of environment killing plastic.
