UPDATE: fire hazard!!! This pitcher has been great for heating water. Recently I noticed it was NOT TURNING OFF! I hear water in it, pour it over my coffee, open the lid, and then set it back on the base. Usually I hear the power switch click as the kettle finishes boiling the water which is good. Recently tho I have come home to find that the kettle was ON FOR OVER EIGHT HOURS!!! I really cannot believe that this product is legal at this point in time. How can a switch fail so easily to result in a heating coil being on for hours without a fail safe mechanism??? After inspecting the powered on kettle it appears that the mechanical switch to turn it on is problematic and doesn’t actually shut offnautomatically like it is supposed to. Now I have to make sure that the kettle is not stored on its base to ensure that it’s not on. The disturbing issue here is that the power light is not on while the kettle is powered on in OFF mode. Luckily this kettle just sits on an open counter in my kitchen so after it was powered on for a day there was nothing in proximity. I would hope that bodum tracks this sort of feedback and fixes their product as this is a significant safety issue. Original review: This kettle has been great. Very simple to use and heats water quickly. Been using for about one month now and it has been great. I’ve found bodum products to be very good and this kettle was no exception to this trend.
