After further use - found to be UNSAFE (see updated review)
Update: February 2011 Warning - Product can be UNSAFE. Just recently I used the booster seat as I have in the past and when I went to get my dog out of the seat, she was trapped... Her back leg got stuck in the lobster claw on the small safety leash where it connects to the bottom of the booster seat. I could not get her out without harming her and had to wait for someone to bring tools to cut the lobster claw off her leg and free her. Thankfully there was no permanent damage though she was a bit traumatized by the ordeal and is now very skittish about getting into the car. Of course I am no longer using the Solvit booster seat. I wrote the company 5 days ago to notify them of the unsafe condition and I have not heard from them yet. I will give them a couple of more days to respond before I take the matter further. I just want to be sure they are aware of this situation and I do not want anyone else to go through what I did with my dog. It was very scary and I am thankful that there were folks around to help us. I would just like to see the company put another style clip on the leash to avoid the possibility of this happening again to anyone. This could only happen to a small dog, but then that's exactly who these seats are made for. Update: April 2011 - I just wanted to add that I did finally get a response from the Solvit (the manufacturer). They said they were sorry and that they were aware of the problem last year when a customer had a similar situation with their dog. They offered me a full refund or a new booster seat that now how a new attachment for the tether strap. I questioned why I had received an 'unsafe' seat if they had re-worked the product last year? Did they not re-call the unsafe seats or notify their sellers of the problem? At first I got no response, but finally when pressed I was told that NO, they did NOT recall the product cause it was only 1 dog and they sell thousands of booster seats. All I can say is if you're happy dealing with a company like this, that's your prerogative, but it certainly is not my choice after having dealt with them on this issue. And when I finally shamed someone into calling me so we could speak in person, I was further disappointed in feeling the person I spoke to could care less. So buyer beware, if you do buy one of these seats for YOUR dog, be sure it is the new model which hopefully will be safer for your pet. Original Review - October 2010 Love this Pet Booster seat and Amazon had the best price and free shipping - can't go wrong with that. Got my puppy(Maggie)when she was 3 mos. old and she would get car sick 95% of the time - short or long trips. Tried everything, front seat, back seat, also tried putting her in her crate. Benadryl and prescription meds were no help either. Then I decided to try the Solvit Tagalong Pet Booster Seat, Extra Large, Deluxe for $49.45 which included the Free Super Saving shipping. I am happy to report that Maggie no longer gets car sick and seems to like her 'doggie seat'. Now she even lays down and sleeps during our car rides together. The seat is easy to set up and to remove - but do take into consideration this will only work with seats that have a headrest. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the limited color selection - I think for the price (some go up to $70 depending on who you buy from) they certainly could have offered a color choice. Would be nice to have had it color coordinated with my car. Hate the beige color on my gray car seats. I also think the tether strap could be just a tiny bit larger. SIZE NOTE: I got the EXTRA-LARGE which states it is for dogs up to 25 lbs. Maggie is just 15 lbs. and utilizes the entire space. I would recommend the JUMBO size for dogs 20 lbs. or more. Overall, good product, got it for a great price and am very pleased my little girl is no longer car sick. It's nice to have her comfortable and safe at the same time.
