I read reviews indicating this cable failed after a few weeks and caused permanent device damage. Thus I decided to inspect this cable after receiving it. The appearance is fine. The packaging is good. The box gave no indication of quality control testing. The black connector covers readily show fingerprints. I carefully slid back the protective cover on the 30-pin side (see photo). It appears the wires and wire sleeve are held into place by injection molding. You can see 4 different wires which the injected plastic did not cover. Under the right conditions it’s possible that a weakened wire sleeve could melt and short the wires. I know that many USB connectors are bound with injection molding but due to the thin and wide aesthetic of the 30-pin connector, I don’t believe it’s suitable here. The original 30-pin cables were not injection molded. The money I saved by purchasing this cable does not out-way the risk of short-circuiting my device.
