As others have said, this can does not last. The can broke after 11 months of light use. Horrible design using plastic for the major stress point on the hinge. This can was lightly used, never abused, no kids in the house ... one day it worked fine, the next morning the lid would not close and the plastic piece on the hinge had broken. The can is in warranty but getting warranty service is more like running a gauntlet than simply returning the item. After numerous hassles and e-mails they told me that the replacement lids were on back order and it would take UP TO 2 MONTHS to get a new one. They also noted that I would have to ship it to them at my cost where they would "evaluate" it to see if I had violated the warranty (their call, my word apparently means zip).
