I bought this two weeks ago, hoping I'd finally found a plastic-free electric kettle. I washed it by hand. Then I used it a few times and noticed an odd plastic-y taste and smell. There are no plastic parts inside, so I was confused. I thought it might just be an issue with the manufacturing or shipping materials, so I added a bit of vinegar to water and boiled it to see if I could get rid of the smell. Then I cleaned it by hand again. It didn't work. So I thoroughly examined the lid--the only bit with some plastic. Bingo. The little plastic that sticks out to secure the lid in place is melting. These plastic nubs touch metal that gets hot when the product is used. This is absolutely worthless now. The melted plastic smell is gross, and over time, those bits are going to melt away, so I'm not sure how the lid will stay in place. Don't buy this. I know there are glowing reviews. They fooled me too. Maybe they changed the design at some point and added these plastic bits? That's the only thing I can think of. I'm quite upset with this waste of money.
